Platy is a small peaceful fish and even though they are not considered shoaling or schooling fish, they are much happier when kept in a small group. They are very active and love breeding. They spend most of their time swimming in small groups in the middle of the water column, among the plants and hiding between the floating leaves.
The Sunrise High-Fin is an uncommon and more sensitive variant of the platy which is prone to getting weaker when kept in stressful or less than ideal conditions. They are not recommended for crowded community aquariums and should be handled with added care. Pictures of the males and females are shown on this page, with females having a rounder body and lighter color.
The coloration of the Sunrise High-Fin Platy turns more vibrant and intense if the fish is provided a rich varied diet and kept in ideal water parameters intended for this particular species, a planted aquarium in good condition may not be suitable if the water is very soft and the pH is too low.
