This tiny sized fish is also known as ‘Scarlet Badis’ and a sought-after choice for small Nano aquariums and planted aquascapes.
The fish changes its color based on the environment, the color ranges from dull colorless appearance to bright red depending on mood, gender, dominance, diet, and age. When stressed or frightened, the Scarlet Gem Badis turns pale which is to be expected when it first arrives – proper care should be provided by the owner for the fish to settle and display its beautiful characteristics.
Diet of Artemia and daphnia (live or frozen) along with high quality flakes are preferred, whereas bloodworms or tubifex must be avoided due to known health risks.
The Scarlet Badis should not be housed with larger or dominant species, they are more suited for aquariums with peaceful small-sized selections in a calm planted aquarium. Males can be aggressive towards one another but provided the aquarium contains sufficient refuges a group can normally be maintained together.
Fish Size Guide:
The ‘Maximum Size’ outlined below is the length this fish can reach as a full grown adult. For the actual size please use the select menu above.
Discus.ae prefers younger stock for their better ability to adapt to new water parameters and higher tolerance against transport. On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as “Large” or “Adult”.
