Platy is a small peaceful fish and even though they are not considered shoaling or schooling fish, they are much happier when kept in a small group. They are very active and love breeding. They spend most of their time swimming in small groups in the middle of the water column, among the plants and hiding between the floating leaves.
The markings of the Bleeding-Heart Platy vary and unique to each fish, younger fish will display a lighter orange coloration which becomes deeper and turns to red as the fish grows to becoming an adult. The color depth relies on the feeding and water conditions (adult example is shown in the second image).
