Frontosa (Cyphotilapia sp. Burundi) is a cichlid from Lake Tanganyika in East Africa, also referred to as Front in the aquarium hobby. Coming from rocky environments in deep waters, the Frontosa does best in a large aquarium with rocks, open spaces, and dim lights (blue lights are popular to highlight the blue tones in the fish).
As an adult, the Frontosa will prey on smaller fish and not recommended to be kept in a planted aquarium, tank mates must be carefully chosen from the Tanganyikan community. Males and some females develop a front hump as grown adults. It prefers harder water conditions and pH from 8 to 9, our Discus.ae stock has been adapted to local tap water parameters but we still recommend the addition of Tanganyika minerals for premium development.

Discus.ae prefers younger stock for their better ability to adapt to new water parameters and higher tolerance against transport. On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as “Large” or “Adult”.
